If one wants to print from a Chromebook, you will have to register the printer with Google Cloud Print (GCP).
A simplified way to look at GCP is to think of it as a remote driver located somewhere on a server.
In order to print, the data has to leave the computer, then go to the cloud.
After that, it will go to a router that the printer is on and print.
If the cloud print server goes down, you cannot print.
You cannot connect a USB cable to print, because you cannot install drivers on a Chromebook.
